Extreme sporting can be traced back as far as the 1950’s, where bullfighting, motorboating, and mountaineering were considered “extreme”.

Extreme Sports on Television

Extreme sports are often televised on ESPN’s X Games. The X games were founded in 1995 in Newport, Rhode Island. The prizes were  bronze, silver, and gold medals. The competition brought out signature tricks by legends like Tony Hawk and Travis Pastrana. The X games took off gaining super exposure due to the many big name sponsors. The most awesome thing about the X-games, is that that have made it a point to stage eco-friendly events from the beginning

Most Popular Names in Extreme Sports

There are many big names that have become legends in extreme sports .

Shaun White

Shaun white is profession skateboarder and snowboarder. Shaun white was born in San Diego, California 1986. White has two Olympic gold medals and holds the X-Games record for gold medals. He is rarity with his skill, he started skating at just six years old and had already secured his first sponsor by age 7. Shaun White has a tremendous legacy at such a young age and even has his own series of video games.

Matt Hoffman

Matt Hoffman AKA “the condor” was born January 9, 1972. This young man joined the BMX freestyle circuit at the age of 15. At the age of 19 Matt went out to launch his own series of Hoffman bikes.  Hoffman was the first person to attempt an oversized 24 foot ramp in 1993. In one of his first runs, a trick gone wrong left him with a torn spleen and he almost died. Fortunately he was able to recover.

Tony Hawk

Anthony Hawk AKA Tony Hawk AKA The Birdman, is one of the most well-known skaters in the world. His skating has earned him countless accolades, his own line of skateboards, signature tricks, an impressive series of video games, and even cameo appearances on many television shows. Tony hawk is one of the best skater and though he is mostly retired he still enjoys skating today.
